Now on with the story. 
  Note: This takes place in my own little universe and doesn't
really apply to the usual stories. If I got characterization wrong 
I’m sorry. This is after my first fanfic The Beginning of an 
Adventure if you haven’t read it this may not make sense.

                             Making New Friends

    Diamond Amber and Shadow traveled the well worn road. They hadn’t
seen another living thing for a mile or two know and were getting
curious.
   "Okay. I think I figured out why we ain’t seen no one." Shadow said
wrinkling her nose. "It smells like a garbage heap ‘round here."
   "It be a garbage heap girl." D.A. said motioning toward, what one
would assume, had once been a city.  "Guess dat’s where Mobotropolis or
whatever was. Before wat’s ‘is name took ova"
   "Oh yeah wasn’t that the capital city or something?" Shadow asked.   
"Didn’t it get taken over by some fat guy when I was 2 or 3?"
   "Uh Huh" D.A. nodded. 
   "Well let’s get out of here this is depressing and did I mention the
smell? If you remember I got a sensitive nose." Shadow said pulling her
vest on tighter and moving off toward the forest.  One hand plugging her
nose.
    "An’ yo nose ‘ill be more sensitive ‘fter I pop you one. There be
people out dere." D.A. pointed to a blue streak, a female rabbit, and a
female squirrel. They were being followed by several SWATbots, to many
for them to fight. "Gonna help me help dem?"
    "I was afraid of this," Shadow grumbled, but took out her bow and
arrow to help.
     Diamond Amber and Shadow walked near silently across the torn
landscape toward the ‘bots spouting something about: Hedgehog Priority
1.
     Shadow had a chance to look over the scenery as they walked. She
wished she didn’t have the time. It was terrible. There was broken
glass, metal, and other unidentifiable material scattering the
landscape. You could still see were some of the buildings had been
decorated. This had once been a beautiful place. Shadow had always lived
a sheltered easy life and this was breaking her heart.
   "D, we ain’t got a chance against metal men," Shadow said realizing
the Echidna might be crazier than she originally thought.
    "I got me a secret" D.A. winked.
    "I’m gonna die" Shadow mumbled, rolling her eyes.
    "Chill out girl"
    They had just got in spitting distance of the SWATbots and suddenly
the closest ‘bot exploded. 
    "HUH" Shadow said nearly dropping her arrows.
    "Tol’ you I got a secret" D.A. smiled retrieving her sword from the
sheath on her back.
    Blinking back her surprise Shadow drew back her bow and let an arrow
fly right in to the ‘bots chest. 
    "Yes" she said grabbing another arrow.
     D.A. had just taken one of the ‘bots heads off and was fixing to do
the same to another. Unfortunately she had missed one the ‘bot fired. 
    It obviously hadn’t counted on her hearing it. She moved. The shot
barely grazed her, but it did get her jacket.
    "Ya got me coat" D.A. screamed. "Me fader gave me dis" her eyes went
from blue to purple in less time than it takes to tell. 
The ‘bots head was off even faster.
    Three SWATbots were left standing. A blue streak sent them flying
into spare parts.
    "Hey how’d ya make that first bot explode?" The blue streak had
turned into a blue hedgehog.
    "Who are you" Shadow asked retrieving an extra arrow. 
     "How can you not know who I am?" He said Shadow shrugged and D.A.
rolled her eyes. "I’m Sonic I’m the best Freedom Fighter around"
     "Ya a’ least got de biggest ego ‘round." D.A. said more interested
in cleaning the motor oil off her sword. 
     The squirrel and rabbit laughed and Sonic was left speechless. 
     "Not many people can  shut Sonic up you must have a gift" the
squirrel said. "I’m Sally. This is Bunnie" she motioned to the rabbit
that D.A. and Shadow had just realized was half robotic.
    "Comes from dealing wit me sis" D.A. said jerking a thumb toward
Shadow.
    "Hey" Shadow protested.
    "I’m Diamond Amber and dats me sis Shadow"
    "Y’all don’t look lahk sisters" Bunnie said.
    "No we don’t" Shadow agreed getting impatient and not wanting to
elaborate. 
    "We got be goin’" D.A. said moving toward tree cover. 
    "Yes we should be going as well. You should come back with us to
Knothole" Sally said. "That SWATbot nicked you"
    D.A. looked at her arm where the shot had got her. It had actually
singed skin. She hadn’t noticed.
    "Dat be okay we have a while ta travel." Shadow looked over at her
sister. That was a lie. They had no preset destination they were just
looking for there father’s murderer to avenge him. 
    "Are you sure? We owe you and that can get infected if it doesn’t
get care" Sally  asked.
    Before Diamond Amber could decline again Shadow spoke up.
    "I think we will take you up on that offer." 
    Sally smiled and motioned for them to follow. She grabbed the ego
injured Sonic and dragged him toward the forest. 
    Once they were far enough away from the city to avoid the smell
which Shadow complained about. Shadow pulled D.A. far enough away from
the group so they wouldn’t be heard.
   "Why’d you lie?" Shadow asked.
   "Don’ supose ‘felt like it’ is a good ‘nough answer."
   "No it ain’t’
   "Maybe I don’ trust dem. Maybe I be a jerk."
   "Or may be your afraid of something" Shadow said. D.A. didn’t reply
in words but her silence made it clear to Shadow that she’d hit the
answer. Now if only she could figure out what was to be afraid of.
After a few minutes D.A. sighed and spoke.
   "Das a good answer Shad.  Got any mo’"
   "That depends what to"
   "I feel Esmerald’s magic around dem. Don tink they got nothing to do
wit ‘er though. Den dey’d be ‘urting us not be ‘elping us" D.A. said her
eyes turning a peculiar color. A cross between a normal blue and an
angry purple.
   "’Ey y’all don’ wanna git lost ‘round here." Bunnie said waving her
robotic arm.
   "Comin’" D.A. yelled.
   "You sure they ain’t no nothing about that sorceress" Shadow asked
ready to bolt.
   "No dey don’t but someone dey know does. An’ I wanna fin’ out who"
Diamond Amber moved up closer to Sonic, Sally, and Bunnie. Shadow moved
up beside her sister.
   D.A. looked up through the trees. She could see the stars including
the brightest one that seemed to follow her lately. She smiled and
thought of her wish.
